The Paterson resident, who teaches at Kids R Kids Learning Academy in Montville, suffered multiple injuries in a recent car crash. The injuries have prevented Butler from being able to work and take care of her two-year-old son Aiden. She also lost her vehicle and faces multiple medical bills.
A fundraiser has been set up to assist Butler. As of Wednesday, Sept. 27, more than $3,800 has been raised.
"Shamika's life has been put on hold and everyone around her is looking for a way to help," Jeanine Cruz, who organized the fundraiser, said. "There is a huge community of parents, loved ones, coworkers, and friends who are looking for any way to help and this small donation can help her rebuild and restart her life."
